Justin is the co-founder of the ground breaking Jordaens Van Dyck Panel Paintings Project which is conducting innovative multi disciplinary research into the paintings on oak panel of Sir Anthony Van Dyck and his friend and Antwerp compatriot Jacques Jordaens, both of whom worked for Rubens as young men. The project is scientifically examining the panels (dating the wood and recording the panel maker’s marks where extant) across the world and conducting new archival research into the lives of both painters. The project aims to make its findings and discoveries as accessible to as wide an audience as possible through its website.

A graduate of Cambridge University, Justin was a Grenadier Guards officer, then worked for the Foreign Office before establishing the JVDPPP in 2016, funded by the Fonds Baillet Latour. He is pursuing related research towards a PhD at the University of Amsterdam. He recently identified the ‘Portrait of an Unknown Man’ at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna as that of Van Dyck’s friend, the Dutch Golden Age artist Pieter Soutman and wrote the text for the KHM single focus exhibition catalogue in March 2018.
